Let’s talk about the end. “The end of what?“, you say. Or you say, “Oh that.“ Or you say, “it will be amazing!“ I’m not talking about a play or a Netflix series or a book. I’m talking about the end of life for you and me when we cease to move and breathe here on earth. So what happens in the end? Now you say “let’s not think about that.“ Or you say, “it will be beautiful“ or “I’m not sure what I believe“ or you say “I hope you’re not going to talk about theology.““Let’s wait and see,“ you say. So that’s your plan? Does it really seem like the best idea? It is exhausting to think about. There really is so much information out there that the wait-and-see plan seems like the best plan. Seems like the easiest plan. However deep down we know we need a better plan. Funerals for friends, the birth of a baby and near fatal experiences remind us we might need a better plan. But we are forgetful creatures and we push those things to the back of our mind. We wait again. We slouch and snuggle into the wait and see theology and than something else causes us to think about it. The Plan. And then we settle back in again until next time. It can be a vicious cycle. Here’s an idea to contemplate. Look around at the great outdoors or to that favorite place in mother nature that you enjoy. Think about this. If you can believe In the possibility that this was all created somehow then there is another option. And as a side note it may help to see that when you look at a skyscraper you would not assume that it came together with no help. It’s obvious that a car has a creator. You wouldn’t just assume that the vehicle came together without any help. Now we look out into nature and it’s a little bit easier to see the possibility of a divine creator. Having established that there is a creator now imagine what his plan would be for us. Some type of intimate connection. Some way to show us what we are here for. How would the creator of the universe communicate with us? The perfect plan would involve the creator connecting with us. Letting us know we are loved and treasured and there is a hope and a future for us. Imagine that. The creator caring for us. So here is where we meet Jesus. The plan to connect, communicate and show he cares for us. Perfect. I have heard that the Creator is perfect. So here is the reason for Jesus. He was willing to walk among us and reveal the perfect plan. He did that and than he gave his life for us. All of the created people are part of the plan. The most amazing thing of all is that we can choose. He has a plan and we are all invited. Wait and see means we will keep moving forward in our own plan, building our own “stuff” and choosing to be on our own. Choosing to believe the plan of God moves us into the position of His family. Forever.
Ask someone who has hope: “Hey, where does that come from?” See what they say and be open minded because they have what you’re looking for.
